La cipolla rossa è considerata una cultivar della cipolla, ha una buccia rosso porpora e la polpa bianca tendente a una colorazione rossastra. Il suo uso principale si ha in ambito culinario tuttavia la pelle viene utilizzata anche come colorante. La cipolla rossa tende ad assumere dimensioni medio-grandi e hanno un sapore piccante e qualità appetitose.
