Lo zenzero è molto apprezzato negli ultimi anni per le sue numerose virtù. È una pianta perenne originaria dell’Asia, utilizzata in cucina per conferire ai piatti un profumo fresco e leggermente piccante. Ha origini millenarie nel profondo Medio Oriente, anche se attualmente viene coltivata in tutta la fascia tropicale. Nel mondo Occidentale il suo consumo è triplicato negli ultimi anni.
